Mobile

I worked with a small team developing an original casual IP for mobile, of which I was in charge of art direction and visual development. I went on to produce in game assets for prototyping, and also assisted with key art and marketing images.

Character designs and character illustrations were both by Sam Hogg, 'bubble' illustrations and typesetting by myself.

Various images from the Art Bible I created, giving aesthetic guidelines on asset and background creation. The blue forest background is an overpaint by myself of an image originally painted by Sam Hogg. All other work is my own.

Using our initial character design as a guideline, I created orthographic sketches and a 3d model made in Zbrush which would be rendered out into a 2d sprite. I animated the character with Unity’s animator tool, splitting the character into various chunks with their own pivots.

Creating the 3d model of the character allowed me to experiment with various poses and angles, and allowed for the option of creating baked animated sprite sheets if he were to be rigged.

Final set of Bubble character 2d sprites I created, after much iteration on design and rendering style. Each bubble character was composed of several layers which were animated to convey different expressions and gameplay states.

I created a sample of a level selection map based on the guidelines I laid out. This was made using a combination of 3d modelling and digital painting. It was implemented as a scrollable map into our game prototype, with visual effects such as moving clouds and animated fog. Level selection icons could be placed as needed by designers.

Selection of screenshots from our fully playable Unity prototype. All artwork and UI was created and implemented by myself, as well as animations and VFX, with the help of our programmer.

The goal of this was to create a fully-functional vertical slice which clearly communicated a unique art style. This prototype was created by a 3-person team of designer, programmer and artist over a short time span.
